There is Nothing New Under the
Sun!
What is the meaning of life?
In the second century an old man asked St. Justin, "What
are you looking for?"
St. Justin replied with the famous
question, "What is the meaning of life?"
The old
man told him, "Seek Christianity."
Science can never tell us why we are here, but Holy Scripture
has the answer...
What does man gain by all the toil at which he toils under the
sun? A generation goes, and a generation comes, but the earth remains for ever.
The sun rises and the sun goes down, and hastens to the place where it rises.
The wind blows to the south, and goes round to the north; round and round goes
the wind, and on its circuits the wind returns. All streams run to the sea, but
the sea is not full; to the place where the streams flow, there they flow again.
All things are full of weariness; a man cannot utter it; the eye is not
satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing. What has been is what
will be, and what has been done is what will be done; and 'there is
nothing new under the sun'.
Is there a thing of which it is said,
"See, this is new"? It has been already, in the ages before us. There is no
remembrance of former things, nor will there be any remembrance of later things
yet to happen among those who come after. I have seen everything that is done
under the sun; and behold, all is vanity and a striving after wind. What is
crooked cannot be made straight, and what is lacking cannot be numbered.
Ecclesiastes 1:3-15.
All things have their season, and in their times all
things pass under heaven.
A time to be born and a time to die;
A time
to plant, and a time to pluck up that which has been planted.
A time to kill,
and a time to heal.
A time to destroy and a time to build.
A time to weep,
and a time to laugh.
A time to mourn and a time to dance.
A time to
scatter stones, and a time to gather.
A time to embrace, and a time to be far
from embraces.
A time to get, and a time to lose.
A time to keep, and a
time to cast away.
A time to rend, and a time to sew.
A time to keep
silence, and a time to speak.
A time of love, and a time of hatred.
A time
of war, and a time of peace.
Ecclesiastes 3:1-8
GOD has written a hunger for Himself in our hearts and
nothing can ever satisfy that hunger except GOD Himself. That is the true
meaning of life.
